We are excited to announce the release of our latest guide, “Trans-Affirming Care in the Psychedelic Space.” This guide is designed to help psychedelic providers create more inclusive and affirming environments for trans and gender non-conforming people.

The rapidly growing popularity of psychedelic medicine has created an urgent need for practitioners to develop best practices for providing ethical, attuned psychedelic-assisted therapies across a diversity of patient identities. Transgender and gender non-conforming people have long-been marginalized within the medical and mental health systems, and psychedelic medicine has been no exception. While this is beginning to change as more people become aware of the unique challenges and needs of this population, there is still a long way to go to provide safe containers for those who have different life experiences than their cisgender peers.

That is why SoundMind has created this guide, which provides a primer on delivering psychedelic-assisted care to trans and gender non-conforming individuals. This guide is part of ongoing work by SoundMind through our Psychedelics and Identity Initiative. From medical considerations to terminology to therapeutic best practices, this guide is meant as a tool for educating practitioners and the beginning of a discussion around the unique needs of trans individuals within psychedelic care. We know that this is just a starting point, and we would love to hear any recommendations for additional material to add or revisions to consider.
